            The basic elements of the Argentine Tango. If you have never danced Argentine Tango, this is the class to begin with. Walking in harmony, the man & woman facing each other, the embrace, the “ocho” or figure eight, forward & back will be covered. Emphasis is on the man initiating or leading the woman and the woman responding or following accordingly to his signal.

            A sequential set of 5 classes is necessary to proceed to the next level although many students prefer to stay for 2 sequences of 5.

Level I - The Foundation of Tango      Mondays  8:15pm – 9:15pm   Dance Charisma

            Using the basic elements, a variation is introduced each class. The foundation for good bio-mechanical movement is laid. Good posture and an elegant embrace are essential while executing the movements.  Towards the end of one year in this class the dancer begins to find improvisation within the variations.

*the pre-requisite for this class is Introduction to the Tango or equivalent knowledge.

Level II - The Structures of Tango          Class not open

            A warm-up with exercises for technique to control and place the body begin each class.  Each structure is broken down. Turns, secadas, boleos, balances, lunges, ganchos are explored and of course the walk, in harmony facing each other, now searching for length , projection, momentum &  expression. Familiarity with different orchestras and rhythm are presented as well as Tangovals & Milonga.

*the pre-requisite for this class is one year in the Level I or equivalent knowledge.

Level III - The Presentation of Tango      Class not open

            The emphasis is on performing and choreographic work; either group or solo pieces.

* the pre-requisite for this class is two years in Level II or  previous  professional dance stage experience.

           Dancing the variations many times with different partners is essential to mastering Argentine Tango. All students are strongly encouraged to come and dance (practice).
